  77. Welcome to College Aid Calculator - and - "Strategies to Reduce College
  78. Costs."  CAC and "Strategies ..." allow users to learn how to Maximize
  79. College Financial Aid. Since CAC also includes all tax calculations, it
  80. is possible to play "What IF ?" to test your personal and business
  81. financial plans before you implement them--to see where you may stand.

  84. Think Ahead, must-read, self-help electronic book for both parents and
  85. students--covering aid facts for both public and private colleges.

  126.               HOW TO INSTALL COLLEGE AID CALCULATOR (CAC) AND
  127.                THE "STRATEGIES TO REDUCE COLLEGE COSTS" BOOK

  130. The combined package including the College Aid Calculator program, the
  131. book "Strategies to Reduce College Costs" and our tutorial is distributed
  132. in a compressed file, COLAID22.ZIP. To open this file, load it into a
  133. temporary directory, change to that directory, and use the un-zip utility
  134. provided by your bulletin board or CD-ROM to uncompress the basic program
  135. files--then our use our SETUP program to uncompress the rest.
  136.  
  137. MAKING DISKETTE COPIES
  138.  
  139. We encourage you to make copies of CAC and Strategies... for yourself,
  140. your friends--for anyone you know with college in their future. To do
  141. so, before you install the program, go to the temporary directory where
  142. you have uncompressed the files. From there, copy all of the file to a
  143. disk labeled Disk 1--except for the following files which belong on disk.
  144. 2: col_aid.1, get_rdme.txt and getodo.bat. To install the CAC files onto
  145. another computer, proceed as described below.

  147. COLLEGE AID CALCULATOR
  148.  
  149. To load CAC, you must have a minimum of:
  150.  
  151.     386 processor - 486 strongly recommended
  152.     8MB of RAM
  153.     At least 9MB of free disk space to install, 6.3MB after installation
  154.  
  155. CAC has its own automatic Installer. To install CAC, in the directory
  156. where you have loaded the files, type SETUP and [Enter]. All you need to
  157. do then is to answer a few questions from the Installer and be sure that
  158. your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files are configured as explained in
  159. the README.TXT file that appears after installation.  You'll be up and
  160. running in no time, and ready to start learning how to save on college
  161. costs by qualifying for the greatest amount of aid possible!
  162.  
  163. You may also install directly from the set of backup disks that were
  164. created as described above: Place Disk 1 in your A: or B: drive and
  165. type SETUP and press ENTER--from Windows Program Manager, choose FILE,
  166. RUN and type in A: or B:SETUP and press ENTER.

  168. "STRATEGIES TO REDUCE COLLEGE COSTS"
  169.  
  170. "Strategies..." is stored in a special compressed file called
  171. BOOKS.ZIP, which will be found in the directory where you installed CAC.
  172. We recommend that you move BOOKS.ZIP to a separate directory. Then,
  173. unzip the file--you will find that it contains not only "Strategies..."
  174. but also the CAC tutorial "COACH," which is described below.
  175. "Strategies..." has been stored in Rich Text Format (RTF)--a Microsoft
  176. standard, which may be read by Microsoft Word and many other word
  177. processors. Boot your word processor, Choose File, Open, File Type: RTF
  178. or Rich Text Format. Then, select the directory where STRATS22.RTF has
  179. been installed, open it and proceed as instructed.

  181. If your word processor is not able to read the STRATS22.RTF file, you
  182. may use your word processor's ASCII file format reader to open
  183. STRATS21.TXT, which has also been included. This format does not retain
  184. all of the nice formatting codes that RTF handles, such as Font sizes,
  185. Bold, Underline and Italics. However, if this is your only choice, just
  186. use your word processor to add these attributes as you read.

  188. COACH - COllege Aid Calculator Helper (TUTORIAL)
  189.

  191. version of CAC. "COACH" is also included in the BOOKS.ZIP file referred
